coax connector rant

In my household, a guaranteed way for me to get the place to myself is to
say
"I'm just going to make up some cables" and reach for the big
crimper. The
other denizens scarper sharpish in order to forego the pathetic tableau of
bad language, crimped thumbs and sliced fingers which invariably follows.

I'm an experienced engineer with an impressive array of crimping
implements,
and can happily crimp just about anything to anything. With one exception.

The bane of my life is the female TV coaxial connector (or whatever it's
called), commonly found lurking on one end of a tv-video lead and the like.

Just exactly how are you meant to make a decent connection to the centre
conductor? I've tried screw-ons, crimps, fudging about with a soldering
iron
etc, yet my success rate must be, oh, 1 in 5.

Anyone got a useful technique for getting these buggers to work?

I'm pathetically fond of my LoftBox, because of it's impressive array of F
connectors ;)

cheers
