Hi Chris,=0D
This is kind of the inverse of what I am trying to achieve and is more
akin=
to FXO or the Asterix solution which if I hadn't plumped for a PABX would =
be my next best choice.=0D
=0D
I have made the concious decision not to go for ISDN on cost grounds as I =
would require 1 ISDN and 1 analogue to get ADSL approx =C2=A340 a month
as=
opposed to a single analogue line at about =C2=A310 a month. The idea behi=
nd having least cost routing on the PBX where I dial a prefix and
magically=
calls go out over an FXS gateway to save call costs to family in the US et=
c appeals greatly as it saves more mony for toys ;-). Whilst SWMBO is PC
li=
terate the use of a PC to call someone is less intuative and if we got
thos=
e PC literate relatives IP phones or FXS gateways for Christmas we could
ge=
t them on the band wagon. I don't need SIP to achieve these but the FWD
gat=
eway appeals as a central phone directory, plus a lot of folks on here are
=
already on it. If possible I wan't to avoid the need for another PC
running=
24/7 to support VOIP, although I still might need this as a gatekeeper for=
the family VOIP solution. =0D
=0D
The most hopefult solution looks like the combine Vigor 2600 VOIP/ADSL
rout=
er, kills two birds with one stone, I just hope the price is sensible (for
=
sensible read cheap).=0D
=0D
The other option is to badger Solwise to see if SIP is in the pipeline as
a=
firmware update for any of their gateways, the pheenet one looks lovely.=

Hi Ian,=0D
=0D
possibly a mad thought, but as the BT Inspiration (I think this is the=0D
switch you're buying) does ISDN, notably desktop ISDN. if you plugged an=
=0D
ISDN card (=C2=A320) into the the PC and got the right software you end up=
=0D
with some sort of gateway, potentially with more call control and info=0D
than FXO/ FXS.=0D
=0D
I suspect you'd need to buy a desktop ISDN card for the PBX which may=0D
not be cheap though...=0D
=0D
I can't think of the right software, but this sort of thing is fairly=0D
common in video conference which has been using the H.321/ H.323=0D
protocols and ISDN for a while so it may be worth a rumage. Must even be=
=0D
some open source.=0D
=0D
As for SIP, I can't say. The only potential telecommy issue I can think=0D
of is that the call type headers (data/ voice/...) , etc produced by the=
=0D
switch for analogue port originating calls (all!) might block the path=0D
somewhere.=0D
Maybe voicemail, fax, etc could then be run on the PC from ring no reply=
=0D
on the extensions? This was sort of where I was trying to get to when I=0D
had ISDN/ RVScom, only real difference was I had ISDN incoming.=0D
=0D
Maybe not what your looking for but thought it was mad enough to=0D
mention...=0D

The joy of being bleeding edge!=0D
Asterix does look interesting, but possibly overkill for such a humble=0D
task. There on some OpenH323 solutions out there which might do the job,=
=0D
once I have moved in I will start having a play, I still have to get a=0D
H.323 FXS gateway past the finance committee. I managed to get the PABX=0D
past on the grounds that it could function as a baby monitor, so maybe=0D
the FXS gateway could be justified as a remote baby monitor or to check=0D
on the babysitter hmmm ;-)=0D

Hi Ian,=0D
It's new technology hence the premium, I *think* you could use Asterisk=0D
to do the conversion, but it need checking...=0D
