I thought that plug-ins were developed mostly by community (individual
users), so I don't understand how they can charge for something that
they didn't develop.
But I might be wrong.
Maybe it's not a bad idea to have a business model, where framework will
be chargable, and plugins not (depending on developer). That would
encourage individuals to develop plug-ins (either for free, or for
money), as long as framework has reasonable (cheap) price.

Hi Michael.

The Gold licence gives you the A8 Framework plus all of the available
plug-ins. The alternative is to buy the basic edition (Framework + X10
plug-in only) and then pay separately for each additional plug in you
want to buy. I'm not sure if Jim has settled on the price for the
plug-ins yet (they are still (just about) in beta and therefore a free
download) but even assuming they are only going to be a tenner each it
won't take many to make the Gold licence a bargain.

As I said, the UI side is really subjective so I suggest you take a look
at both and see what works best for you. A8 tends to use larger more
intuitive and colourful icons in both the app and web interfaces, but as
usual I suspect it really comes down to what you're used to. SWMBO finds
the A8 X10 control panel particularly easy to use as it displays the
device name as a confirmation that you're about to turn on/off the right
thing!

regards,

Julian

Thanks for that Julian,

A few quick questions -
What does the GOLD option get me?
UI - I though they were similar - how different are they? I find Homseer
easy enough to use but SWMBO doesn't - might be worth giving A8 a go. If
I dies she says all the HA stuff will have to go in the bin!

Michael
