Couldn't this be said of pretty much all software from apps through
games to the OS itself? Free during beta phase is not a new invention
and had been running for sometime within software development. IIRC, MS
are still the only people that successfully charge beta testers for
"public" testing.
Beyond a quick try of an early beta, I have never played with Autom8it
much. AFAIK, this intention of charging once it went "gold" was
indicated at the very beginning.
