If you are thinking about standalone displays, you might want to look
at using a SlimP3. It is overkill for *just* as just a display, but
it is certainly visible over a decent distance and should blend in
with existing AV kit.

The Slim is xAP enabled, including support for writing direct to the
display and intercepting IR events, so integrating it with your
existing AV kit should be straightforward.

The TiVo is also xAP-display enabled, and this may be one route for
in-video display, but the text it writes is not a transparent
overlay - just block text.
