two-way wall switches

I have been considering the possibility of automating the lightning
of my house, but I'm confused.
If I install normal wall switches ( no dimming intended) there is no
way that my computer (with a x-10 controller) will know if the
switch is on or off, nor if somebody did switch it off (or on to
that matter).
I was looking for an alternative on the AWM2 microdule, but I gor
even more confused as it says that has two switches, what for?.
I will be gratefull if somebody can guide me through and show if
there are any alternatives
