Yeah ... I may well consider using an Xbox to play the DVD's off the
server if it can do but I just don't fancy dropping down the bitrate on
the movies from where they are. Maybe it's just duff encoding but I see
enough MPEG artefacts on DVD's as they are!

Remember that this will be a source for the projector too and so I want
to keep it as clean as possible ... Ultimately shelling out a grand and
a half on another 6 x 250Gb drives - although not an insignificant
outlay - isn't a huge amount in "The Great Scheme Of Things" (tm)
when
you think that the front speakers and sub I have here were about that
price.

Now of course I'm not saying that I have a spare grand and a half to do
this with at the moment - I don't think I'll *EVER* have a *SPARE* grand
and a half but given that to buy a replacement DVD Changer from the US
is $1,250, then there's shipping it, import duty (which IIRC is
somewhere around 18%) and =A3100 to get those wonderfull people at
Techtronics to mod it to be multi-region (and even then it doesn't
handle RCE discs properly) then it's getting not too far from that
figure. Even then it's still only *ONE* changer and therefore will leave
me with the same reserve of about 20 slots I currently have before I
need to shell out another significant wadge of cash on another changer!

At least this way I can add drives as necessary and spread the cost -
maybe even keep the discs I watch less often in the existing changer and
accept that it'll jam every so often but know that the stuff we watch
frequently will be OK on the server.

Phil
