Yup, sounds like exactly the problem I have here.

Did they manage to cure it?

I've been looking at just extracting the entire DVD to hard disc and
playing it from there off the network - this would also have the
advantage that I would be - in theory at least - able to play different
movies in different rooms simultaneously.

So far I've been able to replay back *4* different movies at the same
time from a pretty low spec server (PII 450, 128Mb, 5,400rpm IDE drive,
no RAID).

The only problems at the moment are the lack of a nice front end for
selecting the movie initially (I'm using RealMagic hardware decoder
cards) and the obvious one of needing *HUGE* amounts of hard disc space
- currently I think I'll need 2Tb or more!
