Yup,

1) This is free
2) FWD simply act as the registrar for your phone 'number'.
3) you can't call people on 'normal' phones without a gateway. It's purely
over IP unless you have a gateway or the other end does.

You may be wondering why bother? well it all depends, taking a favourable
example..

My brother lives in Australia
He has broadband costing 35 quid per month

I live in Holland
I have broadband costing 35 quid per month

I can call him over IP for as long as I want, at no cost (since I pay 35
for BB anyhow) so I cut down on my phone bill
