RE: Home Security ? AND Comfort fitting threads...
Scott,
Because of your company's monitoring service, can you comment on frequency
of false alarms?
Do you have any statistics for this alarm system vs others.
Thanks,
Martin
That's a tough question to answer Martin.
If you are trying to establish whether wired alarms are more reliable than
wireless ones, then I'd have to say yes, possibly, but not by a lot if you
get a quality system. The Powermax, as an example, conforms to BS6799
(class
5 status), and is recognised as a professionally installed wireless system
(hence why you can't buy it in B&Q, only through professional security
outlets).
Beyond the arguments on wireless vs wired, false alarms are normally down
to
the system being setup correctly, and then user error. A big proportion of
false alarms are from people setting off their own alarm on entry/exit, or
not setting their system properly in the first place (leaving windows open,
etc). This is the main reason why the police (generally) don't come to
bells-only alarm systems anymore - most times it's a false alarm which
wastes their time.
See Mark S-J's follow up review of his PowerMax on the automatedhome
website
to see how few false alarms he got in a year.
My own Powermax has generated a handful of false alarms, but I'm not
convinced a wired system would create any less. Since I have our monitoring
service at home, I get alerted when the alarm goes off, and it gives me the
opportunity to establish whether it's a false alarm or not. The peace of
mind is a godsend.

Any more Questions? :-)

Scott
