I know that is may be a radical idea, but could we consider moving to a
'message board' system like avforums?

Simply, downsides are that posts are not send via email
Upsides, you can have different forums and new users can just have a
browse around.

To perhaps put things into perspective as to why you wouldn't want this
on your ADSL line.

On average last year the list moved ~2900 messages a month.
The average message size for January 2003 was 4KBytes
The list currently has 850 members.

I recieve my e-mail as plain text. So I'm going to ad 20% to allow for
those with HTML e-mail.

2900 x 4KB = 11.4 MB

11.4MB x 850 = 9.5GB

9.5GB + 20% = 11.3GB

11.3GB / 30 = 385MB / Day on average

Since ADSL can only send at 128Kbit/s MAX = 1GB / Day.

Of course some days are heavier than others. It's clear from this that
messages would arrive more slowly than from yahoo on a bad day.

Regards

Stuart
