I started with Rank Strand wirewound slide dimmers at school.

Generous dollop of Vaseline on the slider bar to ensure nice smooth
dimming.
1 Gallon plastic container of chilled Orange squash to keep us going
through
the performance as it got so bloody hot up on the gantry.

We didnt have a Master Dimmer (too expensive for the school) so we made a
wooden bar to drag all the dimmers down to the bottom. Had to be VERY
careful doing a fast fade down. If we didnt stop just before the bottom of
the dimmers there was an almighty "CLANG" as all the sliders hit
the
bottom.
Happened several times :-)

Nowadays they dont even have to change the Cinemoid.... just send a
differnet DMX code and it becomes a different colour.
