Take a look at the buffalo kit. This has a flat unidirectional external
antenna at extra cost. This is what I use and is very SWMBO friendly.

Subject: [ukha_d] Advice on current wifi cards ?

Hi,

Looking at replacing some wifi (pcmcia) cards that were stolen,
and since the nice insurance man is paying the bill I thought
I'd just ask everyone's advice. The stolen cards were rebadged
Orinoco Silver cards (from eBay), but I see plenty of 22Mbps
and 54Mbps cards around.. and am wonder if it would be better
to replace them with faster cards ? Are these faster cards
compatible with old 11mbps equipment ? My current WAP is a
BELKIN 11Mbps but I could possibly replace that as well.

One thing that is important to me is that the WAP is small
(like the belkin) because I have it mounted above the stairs
to get better coverage around the house. I don't think a large
blue LinkSys WAP would get much SWMBO approval :)
