Yes, I do exactly the same to drive the Kiss Coolview in the AV room so I
can access the HA server, no noise at all. I used the Gyration RF K/B &
mouse combo which gives about a 25ft range for =A380 odd, a far greater

ge
than the vast majority of the "claimed" 10M range BT devices I've
played
with and I've tried a few! ;)

Were I ever to go down the HTPC route, which I doubt I ever will given the
emerging technologies on the way, I would have the PC in a normal case in a
separate room from the AV kit and use the same method to deliver sound and
video, possibly using KAT5 to deliver the signals. No noise and no odd

components needed and, even if I did want a display in the AV room like

e
VFD type thing, I'd just drive a serial one into the AV room, again no
noise.

Apart from all that I'm a great believer in a dedicated bit of hardware to
do a dedicated job when it comes to AV stuff and whilst the HTPC is a good
idea it's let down by usability IMHO. The software just isn't up to the

and seems too flaky IMO.

Let's face it, 2.7K buys a lot of seriously good kit that you can plug in,
and just use, no assembly required, no farting about with drivers, third
party software solutions and no noise. The only thing I can see that you

n
do with an HTPC as opposed to dedicated hardware is drive a PJ or similar

its native resolution, a compromise I'm quite happy to live with personally
to save me the grief.
