Re: [OT] two way radios (Walkie Talkies)

Silly things to watch. I bought two pairs for going out (fine) and so
wifey could contact me in my electronics workshop (OK, shed). They have
rechargeable batteries (some don't have that option) and I was planning to
leave them plugged in all the time. It turns out the mains bit is
recharging only and they cannot send or receive whilst plugged in which is
a pain.

Again it's obvious but they are half duplex not full as in a phone. You'll
soon get used to saying 'Whisky Charlie Tango - blah blah blah - OVER'. On
the bright side the missus has to wait her turn and cannot talk over you
(if she wants you to hear anyway).

Out in the field though they are great and my kids love them. Mine were
Maplins ones when they were on offer a fair while ago.

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] two way radios (Walkie Talkies)

Hi

SWMBO and I work just over 600m away from each other in different
buildings and we would like a way of talking to each other without using
our mobile phones (which has got expensive). Using two way radios would
have the added advantage that we can use them when outdoors as well
(hiking, parakarting etc...). Now to the question:

Does anyone have any recommendations of two way radios or know what to
avoid? I have been looking at the Motorola T5522 models but I can't
find anyone or any site that has reviewed and compared them against
other models.

I would be interested in anyone's personal opinions on these or other
models.

Cheers
Pedro
