RE: Gate automation
Alan
two gates and at the moment mains voltage underground drive hydraulics seem
to be the better option so I will probably go with those, probably with
beam
break for safety. What kind of multicore should I be looking to fit? I have
all kinds of mains cable, alarm cable,UTP, STP/FTP but I think you may mean
something else.
I feel another visit to my electrical wholesaler coming up, he already
thinks I have enough cable for a small estate of houses ;)
Cheers for the help
Mick

It depends what equipment you are using, low voltage units or mains
voltage.
I only fit hydraulic drive units which are mains voltage, this would
require
one 4 core 1.5 SWA to each drive motor.
Do you have one gate or two do you want underground drive units or on the
back of the gate rams?
The radio receiver can be located at the gates, this could be supplied by
a
cat 5 cable, better still to use a slightly larger multicore cable.
What are you doing about safety controls? beams or vehicle sensing
induction
loops, these again can use the multicore.
Six cores would give you + - 24v / no open command / nc safety circuit.
