Re: Gate automation

At last something I do know about having installed hundreds of these over
the years.

The option of opening an automated gate manually without disengaging the
drive unit is a no no, you have several options:-

Provide a push button at the entrance for visitors of pedestrians.
Fit a separate pedestrian gate.
If you are planning a field type gate then use one long automated gate and
a
smaller manual gate, when closed they look rather good.

With regard to cables you will need a 240 mains supply to one side of the
entrance, normally 3 core SWA 1.5 or larger depending on the length of run.
Control cables from the house, again this can be SWA if you want direct
burial, you only need 2 cores for an open command to the gates but put in 4
core as the cost difference is minimal.
A 2" DUCT across the road then you can pull through what ever cables
you
need.

If you want more advise on the best equipment let me know.
