RE: NT4 Server OT

Hi Mick,

Sorry to but in here, but when I bought my first server from an ex-member
it started to do the same thing...

No logged errors, nothing.....I then bought a new power supply and it has
worked fine ever since!

Have not got a clue why this happened but it did cure it.

Mine is/was a Compaq Proliant 2500, not a new machine so was a little
harder to come by a PSU but if yours is a PC could be worth the cost to
try.

Good luck, these things can be VERY frustrating to solve....

Only thing I can think off....

B.

Paul

had a quick look a it and it looks ok but I will do some more checking,
would a PSU problem allow a controlled shutdown with no obvious errors when
restarting? Also why would I need to completely cut power to the server
before I can restart?

I didn't think NT4 had the brains to do anything clever like shutdown
cleanly on duff power supply ...or does it?

If it is doing that would it be recorded in any logs?

Cheers
Mick

Have you had a look at the PSU - maybe it's overheating or current
limiting (or just duff!) - Is it clogged up with dust?

Just a wild stab in the dark...

Folks

I have an NT4 Server which I am hoping to use as part of my HA set up
(don't
ask why it is running NT4 but it has to worse luck).

This system has just suddenly started shutting down sometime overnight,
then
it won't restart until I switch off power at the socket and switch back on
(usually cycling the power once clears it but sometimes it takes a couple
of
tries). When the system comes back up it doesnt show any errors of any
kind.

Any clues as to why this might be happening or where I could look to try
and
figure it out (I am not an NT4 expert)?

Cheers in advance

Mick
