Just out of interest, have you considered using USB2? - I've recently
started using external USB2 drives to get around the IDE channel
limitation, and found them to work pretty well.  Scan do some internal
USB2 drive housings, or Maplin (and others) do external ones.  I'm
pretty sure USB2 has a 127 device limit, so that should be enough for
the moment :-)
