I'd reccomend getting a compact flash (CF) jacket first.  This will
enable you to add extra memory or a wireless network card.  This

However, a company called Socket do a wired version and a low-power
consumption version.

With regards to the IR remote option you've probably noticed that
your iPaq doesn't 'Paq' much punch! Try using a CF IR extender like
the one on the link below:
