RE: Composite Video

I have the same scenario:

=20

Node0:

Extron video matrix switcher (composite and stereo)

Kat5 TX's - lots!

Sky+

Sky (free)

Whole house audio amp (Kustom KHS6640)

Shure automatic mic mixer

Etc etc

=20

AV Room:

50" panny plasma

Onkyo DVD player (YUV out)

Onkyo Amp (YUV switching)

Lots of nice speakers :-)

=20

To get the best pic quality to the plasma from Sky+ I use an RGB Kat5 set
a=
nd then convert RGB to YUV in the AVRoom. This goes into switching amp and
=
out to plasma. I didn't want amp and DVD in node0 as it's too big, hot and
=
pain in the arse to put new disc in etc (plus after spending around =A35
on=
amp and DVD alone, I wanted it on display!).

=20

The sound for Sky gets routed via a dedicated Kat5 pair from the switcher
-=
that way I can also view anything else (composite) connected to the switch=
er (CCTV and second Sky box etc).

=20

Lots of audio/video cables in Node0!

Hmmmm. I thought you might say that.

Considering the purchase of a new Whole House Amp which has video
switching but its only composite. Fine for the other rooms but not the
lounge with the 42" pany and that's the room where multiple video
switching would be the most advantageous.

Many thanks

I've run composite to my plasma as well as S-Video and YUV. Composite
was OK (from CCTV etc) but YUV/RGB is a big difference (especially
noticeable on text/menus etc).

If you've got a plasma just running comp - it's a big waste IMO.

A couple of questions:

Has anyone run their plasma on composite and could comment on the
picture quality?

Can you run a composite feed across normal coax (Thinking retro fit
here.)?

Many thanks
