This can certainly be done...

The following line [patrick.lidstone.net/ha, xAP projects, Central
controller (xAP-in-abox)]

http://patrick.lidstone.net/ha/xAP/xAP%
20Projects/Applications/xapinabox

explains the rudiments of how to boot an ITX box over the network. I
haven't got round to documenting how I built the bootable image (it's
a relatively arcane, although straight forward, process), or building
a formal distribution with the xAP HA daemons included (which provide
web/wap/sms/X10/comfort/weather/heating control etc functionality). I
know there is significant interest in this & it _will_ get done
eventually.

FWIW my ITX has been absolutely rock solid - running for months and
months on end without the slightest hiccup - so reliable that it
pretty much rivals the likes of a conventional embedded system (e.g.
Home Vision), I'd say.
