RE: Seeking noisy fan tips

If you do try to go down the replacement route, you might want to look at:

A friend bought the ridiculous-looking Zalman flower cooler heatsink but
recommends it for a quiet life:

(prices seem cheaper at overclockers compared to quietpc)

I have a couple of bits of second hand kit that I've recently
acquired which have very noisy fans. Before I try and source
replacement fans, are there any old wives tales I could try first?
(E.g. Washing up liquid, WD40, candle wax, pencil lead or all of the
above?)
