My Pronto is ill....

I wonder if anyone on the list has experienced similar. My pronto is
not
functioning correctly. On installation of batteries it follows the
usual
routine of waiting a while, showing the screen, beeping twice, then
showing
the home page.

If I touch the screen it goes blank and the display will flash half the
screen black intermittently for a second or so.

The same happens if I press the restart button.

I have tried connecting to the PC but it cannot see the device, both when
I
try to upload and also download.

It may have been dropped, it has in the past !!! but no signs of
physical
damage. In the past I have had to remove the batteries and 'restart' after
a
drop probably because of a power spike caused by the batteries losing
contact for a few mille seconds ?

I am using rechargeable Ni-Cads which have been fully charged
