ATI Remote Wonder range?

My ATI remote wonder arrived today, so I connected it up to my machine
in the garage and managed to get a totally non impressive  range of
6",
and then it didn't control it all the time, not too chuffed! So I've
tried in on my other machine in the house and can get a range of 15ft
at
least, so at least I know it works ok.

So any ideas on why the range in the garage is pants. The only
electrical things in there are the PC, a monitor and a freezer, would
this interfere, if not any suggestions.
