Hello Robert,

As you say the AT has an http interface to the display
screen - as does SliMP3 - and that's the way the xAP application works.
The AT's http server is internal to the AT and the source is not
available - however the SliMP3's http server runs on a PC using an open
source Perl server. so what I would really like to do is add in a module
that reports all the state change information via xAP - eg What's
playing, what IR key has been pressed - what the Slimp3 is currently
displaying etc. This should be really easy to do IF you know Perl but
that's another one on the 'would like to learn' list for me. Maybe some
existing (or soon to be ) SliMP3 owner has the skill here ???

I think trying to get xAP support into the AT would be a
great option too although very much at the mercy of Turtle Beach - I
might get in touch and see if there's any mileage here, As you say it is
a fairly easy thing to do given the nature of the information if you
just want to announce state and xAP is almost tailor made for that. To
just announce 'something's changed' would be trivial.  For a full blown
'control' interface it's a little more involved for them but still in
the 'very do-able' class I think.

The AT already allows you to control much of its facilities by the use
of
http requests.  For example you can tell it set display messages via a
http
call.  However  I can see how it would be usefull to allow other devices
to
send xAP messages and for the gateway to pass that onto the ATs display.

One area of the AT that is limited is determining its current status,
and
events as they occur.  You can poll a web page, to check its current
status,
but what would be nice was if the AT broadcasted details of events as
they
occured.  This way a message would be sent for example when a song
changed
or a button was pressed.  Requests for this kind of functionality have
been
requested in the past on the AT lists.

xAP to my mind would be a good way of going about this, and possibly
very
easy to implement.  Whats needed however is good summary of why xAP is
something Turtlebeach should look at.  A good start would be if someone,
in
the know, defined the minimum needed to implement the support an xAP
message
of "Somethings changed - check the http status page".

I have read a version of the xAP spec, possibly an old one, and from
what I
remember all that may be required of the AT is sending an IP broadcast
of a
small carefully specified ascii string.

The AT has been evolving with lots of Firmware updates, so why not get a
bit
of xAP in there as well.  Any of the xAP people have any comments on
whether
they'd like to see this sort of thing in the AT?
