RE: TiVo
Brian,
The best
way to reboot your Tivo is using the remote control
and navigating through Messages & Setup > System Reset > Restart
the
Recorder (thumsbown)(thumbsdown)(thumbsdown)(enter). There is probably
a
way to do this from the bash prompt too but I don't know it.
Not sure
why you don't have the web pages beyond the home
page .. You do get the homepage ..yes ?? Is it possible that
when you
expanded the TivoWeb archive that you didn't preserve the hierarchy ? I
assume you expanded the files on the Tivo (and not on the PC). If you
did expand on a PC then it is possible, indeed likely that you will
need
to change all the permissions on the Tivo. Mine worked just as stated
in
Tony B's instructions.

I am now a happier little bunny, it looks like TiVo had crashed! Thanks
for the heads up on this Kevin.
I re-booted TiVo and have now managed to carry out the install as
detailed below and I can now access the TiVo via a web page YIPPEE!
BUT..
That is as far as I can go! if I now click on any of the options I only
get "The page cannot be displayed".....ho hum...
Is it okay to re-boot the TiVo at this stage? actually is there a
correct way of re-booting the TiVo instead of pulling the power?
Thanks a lot for everyone's help on this, it has been an
experience.......
These prompts that I have been typing, are the Linux commands of UNIX
stuff? I have got my 2 year old 333MHz PC sitting by to have Linux
loaded onto it as it would not load to my older Proliant Server.....
Thanks,
B.

Not unless you're running a web server
ok here goes... complete instructions from c:\tivoweb-tcl-1.9.4.tar.gz
to TivoWeb running. Apologies if it seems insulting, but I've put down
every key press, just to save any ambiguity... :)
Hopefully this should get you sorted
You want to put the file in var/hack I don't know wether you've created
this directory so assuming you haven't
****Creating /var/hack****
Start/Run
telnet yourtivoipaddresshere [OK]
mkdir /var/hack [Enter]
You can close this window now if you like, or save it for unpacking
later
****FTP Instructions****
Start/Run
ftp yourtivoipaddresshere [OK]
[Enter] [Enter]
bin [Enter]
lcd c:\ [Enter]
cd /var/hack [Enter]
put tivoweb-tcl-1.9.4.tar.gz [Enter]
Close the FTP window
****Unpacking TivoWeb****
Start/Run
telnet yourtivoipaddresshere [OK]
cd /var/hack [Enter]
gzip -d tivoweb-tcl-1.9.4.tar.gz [Enter]
cpio -H tar -i < tivoweb-tcl-1.9.4.tar [Enter]
****Running TivoWeb (console mode)****
/var/hack/tivoweb-tcl/tivoweb console [Enter]
Messages will be displayed ending with Accepting Connections. DO NOT
CLOSE THE TELNET WINDOW! You can now point your browser to your Tivo
address and you should see the TivoWeb interface.
Once you've confirmed that it's running ok, select Restart then Quit
>from
/var/hack/tivoweb-tcl/tivoweb [Enter]
into a telnet session. This will allow you to run TivoWeb and close the
telnet window, otherwise it may crash if it tries to write something to
the console but the console session has ended.
