Well, the WTC "Ground Zero" is in reference to Nuclear
detonations...

All of the modelling of blast damage makes reference to air burst, or
ground
detonation, and the radial distance from the point of detonation (or for
an
airburst, the point directly below the detonation)

so, "Ground Zero" is simply the point on the ground directly
under a nuclear
detonation.

... and given the state of the cabling in my own Node Zero, not a half
bad
connection, tbh ;)

Nodes are simply data cabinets, usually numbered upwards from the main
datacomms/computer room. I first heard it back in '90 when I saw my

multi-node cabling installation.

The Americans were using it before that.

Probably in common parlance as a reference to the origin of something.

All nodes originate from the patch panel hence Node 0.

September 11th was centered around the World Trade Centre and was
referred to as "Ground 0".

Just my guess of course :-)
