You're probably right Gerard - though the MS philosophy seems to be
"If at
first it doesn't succeed, hammer away for another couple of years until we
get
it right/we have killed the competition"....
I don't see the point in it myself - I wouldn't want a bloody great PC in
my
lounge like that Dell thing for one - and if I've got a PC then I want to
use
it for other things like games, software development etc.
If the PVR stuff robs 20% of the processor, that's gonna impact on these or
vice versa, so I either get p*ss poor performance from these applications,
or
the video stutters and I get a rubbish recording......
I'm all for making consumer devices smarter, but having one big PC do it
all is
_not_ the answer IMO.
Now if they added this functionality to the xbox, it would make a lot more
sense....

PS: How can a 2.somethingGhz P4 stutter when browsing the guide data when a
lowly 57Mhz 486 in a TiVo can cope? :-(
