Ian. You are willing to pay extra for certain things, such as
reliability. I am prepared to do likewise.

However, at present you HAVE THE CHOICE. The danger inherent in
well-meaning bills such as the consumer protection legislation changes
is that they REMOVE THE CHOICE. From now on, you HAVE to pay extra for
the reliability. You no longer have the option of a cheap, but
unreliable item.

I would point out that your recent poor experiences have NOT occurred
because the law didn't give you enough rights. They occurred because
some eTailers chose to flout the law, and deny you your EXISTING rights.
It is not clear how further rights would change this. What is needed in
your case is stronger enforcement.

I agree with you on this one.

I _am_ an environmentalist. I recycle significantly more than I chuck. I
take public transports for 80% of my journeys. I willingly pay a premium
and buy a lot of what we eat from local, organic, producers. I do not
buy clothes made from man-made fibres...

... But I'm not happy to go the next step and say that because _I_ do
these things, then they should become mandatory for everyone.
