Help required using alarm outputs to create log/send email etc

I have a Montage Plus Multiplexer for CCTV monitoring and recording.

The problem (with CCTV in general) is having to view the tapes (not
gone
digital yet) when you dont know what time an event has occurred.

This multiplexer has the ability to view changes and "sense"
movement. Once
it has "sensed movement" it can send a relay output. The relay
output can be
set to be Normally Open, or Normally Closed.

The question I have is how can I use this relay output to connect with a
PC
? Ideally I would like an event log maintained, or  even an email
sent. Once
I figure how to communicate between the multiplexer and the PC, I may
then
be able to record the images on Hard Disk as well. But first I need to
establish communications.

Any ideas anyone?
