Hi Tony

The most common fault with the lights is a SM Capacitor on the underside
of the top board. It goes s/c and blows a SM fuse on the same board. You
need to separate the boards to get to it. Make sure you replace the fuse
with the correct value, if not and you still have a s/c then you will
have a different sort of light display.....

Mainly orangey yellow with a fast flicker closely followed by grey to
black smoke emanating from the rear of the unit.

Here speaks a voice of experience!!!

If you do have any problems either email me off list or let me have the
unit & I should be able to fix it for you.

Well it was only a matter of time...

Recently installed one of my three power supply "bricks" from Ian.
Worked
fine for seven days, six hours use a day (on a timer).  Then it's
internal
fuse blew :o(   Cautiously replaced fuse (after all, the switching on
and
off may have aged the fuse <g> ), attached power supply to a safety
isolating transformer, threw switch and ... BANG!  Fuse #2 blew.  A bit
of
digging around the circuit shows that switching MOSFET Q1 is
short-circuit
between all it's pins!!  New one on order from Farnell....

And then last night one of the three cove lights in use died at power up
-
no lights, no nothing.  Just dark silence (from that annoying whine they
make) :o(  If I get a chance I'll be stripping it down over the next few
days to see what's upset it.

Just as well I ordered more than I needed :o)
