I think TVs use a pin on the scart to identify widescreen programs. As
projectors don't use scart this doesn't happen.

As I mentioned before, I use TheaterTek as a software DVD player. You
can "teach" it the various aspect ratios and it will auto switch when
the relevant source material is fed to it. Seems to work suprising well
even switching to 4:3 for menus then back to 16:9 or 2:35 when the movie
kicks in. Picks up the correct ratio when the extras are played, most
being in 4:3.

For watching TV via sky or Tivo, I'm afraid it's down to manual
switching on mine. It has 4:3, 16:9 and vscroll on the vga input.
Vscroll is like a zoom for 4:3 material.

Cheers
Don

Hi

Just wondering what happens on a widescreen projector when you feed it a
4:3 image, do they do zooming as widescreen TVs do?

Cheers
