Kevin

I have just sent off a PCB design for a current interface I am building. It
uses a metering IC from Analog Devices and sends the data on CAN bus and
has
a local display of the current in Amps and kwh. The interface is via a
current transformer on the main incoming supply so that I can monitor the
instantaneous current etc.

I can easily adapt this to RS232/485 after I have got the PCB back in about
a weeks time and completed and tested the software. If anyway wants they
could adapt the software for xAP as I can supply the source code in C
later.
I did the interface with CAN bus as I now run a can bus link around the
house for sensor monitoring.

I'll keep you updated on it's progress. Pics are to be on my updated
website
about the same time. Currently just doing the creation of the site now.

They seem like good little devices - it's a shame that the design is
such that the plug cable passes over the display window though. Also
means that mounting in sockets near to the floor is impossible.

What would be really nice is if someone could adapt these to
provide data out in some form (RS232 ?) and then you could use them for
HA electricity consumption monitoring (bearing in mind 13A max). On that
subject does anyone do this at the whole house level and is so how -
sort of looking at current transformers at the moment having just got my
electricity bill.
