I've noticed some colour banding on mine - especially in graduated
tones. I put it down to the reduced colour reproduction compared to the
16 million you're used to on most PC displays. Poor MPEG compression can
also produce noticeable effects such as these (especially noticeable if
you have a 40" or 50" display - try putting an off-air signal through it
- yuck!)

Having spent a little time adjusting the Panasonic plasma over the
last
couple of days I've started to notice some colour banding on the screen.
The
room that the unit is in is fairly dark and so I have reduced the
brightness
quite a lot which has resulted in a much more natural colour rendition
but I
think has introduced the issue. I notice it particularly on the dark
scenes
where the transition from an almost black seems to step to a dull
'ochre'
colour almost like a contour relief map. Is this a common issue ? It
seems a
large step even within a large displayable colour range, how many bits
per
colour are there - is it 8 ? (32K colours). Or is there perhaps a step
from
off to 'min on' on a pixel that causes this ?

The way around it seems to be have the brightness quite a bit higher
but
I am concerned about the longevity of the screen. I have tried both
digital
and analog sources as I thought it might be to do with the encoding but
it's
apparent on both..

    Any suggestions ??

    Kevin
