ITYF the shock absorbing techniques are more important than the HDD
used.  Laptop disks have shock absorbers in them, and are much
smaller, but they are also much more expensive.  I'd be inclined to
do something silly if I were installing a HDD to the car.  Probably a
box with the HDD suspended inside on 4/8 shock absorbers from a radio
controlled car.  Mind you, I do go over the top!
