Hmmm,
I had cheap mechanical KVM switch with 1m of VGA cable on each side and the
image became very poor, that I couldn't keep it like that.
I changed the VGA cable, and had the same. Problem was with KVM switch then.
If I buy decent KVM switch, does that mean that I should be fine. I plan to
use KVM switch in cupboard and put touchscreen VGA monitor (which I haven't
found yet) outside.
I need to look for such monitor now. Any pointers?

  I've run two 10m runs from a splitter on a cheap VGA card.  The image
  looked great on a couple of plasma screens.  Provided good cable is
  used, 10m is no problem.  You could always use KAT5 for longer
  distances.
