Hmmmm...John is in a huge minority!  I couldn't let that post go without
replying!

If your Sky picture is comparable to a DVD then I must be getting a
different version of Sky to you.  It's great that Sky+ records the mpeg
stream - well, it would be if the mpeg stream was actually any good!  We
grab some TiVo stuff in "Basic" quality  - a few soaps and kids shows.  And
it does get blocky - and start to look like SKY! :P  But in the 2 highest
quality settings, from it's own analogue tuners - the quality is superb.

I can see how this is perfect for you living on your own Tim, but it isn't
very good in our family situation where it means someone watching from the
PVR means no-one else in the house can watch Sky (unless you get a SECOND
subscription).

TBH...my hatred of Sky (after their recent 15% price rise) has grown even
more.  TiVo pulls more than enough off terrestrial TV (and freeview) than I
can watch now, so I'm seriously considering cancelling my Sky completely.
