Hi Dave,

I posted a couple of years ago about how Maplin was going down the same
slippery slope as Tandy. I spent an awful lot of money with them over the
course of 20 years. Then they failed to send me my Trade copy of the
catalogue and when I rang up to ask why I was told it was because I hadnt
spent enough in the previous 12 months. I pointed out that it is impossible
to spent ANY money with them when all the things I was buying had been
discontinued.

Since I started selling KAT5 I have spent more than ever on components and
this has been shared amongst 4 companies.

Farnell for the video op-amps.
Rapid for all other electronic components.
One Way Circuits - for my PCB's.
Onboard Electronics - for the cases.

The only things I buy from Maplin now are things I cant get from anywhere
else.

Hi Keith,

If you want a radio control car or an expensive add on for you PC they
always have stock in the shops. Semiconductors and useful things they do
not. Maplin has never been the same for a good few years now and it is
getting worse. I much prefer to order from Farnell these days and get it
next day free delivery and the minimum is only £10 when paying by
credit
card.

Bloody Maplin :-(

Went to order it yesterday and decided that I would get it from the Norwich
shop instead as we were going to Norwich today. Did they have one? .... did
they ****.

I dont know why they bother having shops. I tried to get a couple of other
things whilst I was there... Nope :-(

I cant remember the last time I successfully bought something in the
Norwich
shop, must be at least 18 months ago.

So I decided to order it via the web but didnt fancy paying £2-50 in
postage
so I thought I would add a few more items. Almost all the things I could
think of that I wanted from Maplin are now discontinued. I ended up with
the
Current Meter and a length of 19" rack rail before they discontinue
that.

Keith
