Thing is, when I worked at Maplin, the vast majority of the business was
mail-order. I think Tony B has it straight on the head.. when it was
Roger(?) and his wife, they had an interest in the core business that got
them well off in the first place. Not stinking rich, but well off.

I honestly think that a company offering what Maplin did circa 1985 with
lots of mail order + net, and no expensive shops would make a nice living.

Perhaps the attarction of plastic dinosaurs is strong, but that move places
Maplin well and truly in the "tat shop" category. :(

I'm across to Farnell, Rapid and RS too.. :)

incidentally, has anyone seen a supplier carrying the new PIC 16F648 yet?
it's a 628 on steroids!! 8K, 256 mem, 256 eeprom at 20Mhz :)
