Are you going to post details of your display here? I'd be very interested = to see what you come up with. Would it be based on LCD or VFD and tied to a= particular make?

I wouldn't recommend 20x2 - it's too small to do much with. Spring
the extra for 20x4 and you won't regret it.

55 quid for 20x2 seems like a lot - I am working on a PIC based
display with buttons etc. that will cost half that (component cost),
and you'd easily be able to put one together yourself.
