Serial LCD/VFD displays

Chaps,

looking to get a cheap-ish serial LCD or VFD module to play with.

The Matrix Orbital ones look very nice, - anyone know of a source of these
in the UK?

Anyone got any opinions on the Maplin ones, (apart from the obvious fact
that they won't have them in stock!) - they're pretty cheap as well..
