VFD fits in a 33mm(? - at least that's what my tape measure seems to 
say) plastic surface mount box with room to spare. I doubt very much 
it would fit into 25mm. LCD may need more than that if it has a 
backpack fitted - it wouldn't hurt to make it as deep as poss. unless 
your walls are very hard!
