RE: [OT] Maplin Last Chance Offers :-(

Ahh, you're going back to when Maplin was owned by the directors - happy days.  Then about 1995 (can't remember exactly - the event is so painf= ul my
mind has blocked it out) they were bought out by "Cannon Street Invest= ments"
who, because of their history, quickly changed their name to "Saltire&= quot;.  The
rot was seeded, technical staff (myself included) left one by one (either b= y
jumping or being pushed).

Apparently there was a "change of direction".  They initiall= y wanted to
compete with Dixons, Currys, etc. - but using their existing stores that were not "optimally" placed.  Shifting boxes makes money, no= t in-house
designs or electronic component sales.  Well, that's what the new boar= d
thought.

Never have had as much fun in a job as I did with Maplin in the early
days....

By now most of you will know how I feel about Craplin :-(

I went into the Norwich store on Saturday to buy a USB connector plate for<= BR> one of my PC's that has onboard USB.

Couldnt find it in the shop so looked in the catalogue..... almost =A310 an= d
they didnt have any.... =A31-95 from Rapid

Looked around at the "Staff" and realised that non of them were a= ctually
born when I placed my first order with Maplin back in 1978

Today I received there latest special offers email....

"Infrared Controlled Asian Elephant"
"Infrared Controlled Pterodactyl"

The way the prices are slashed it is obvious that they were either way too<= BR> expensive in the first place or nobody actually wants to buy them at
all......or both.

What happened to the company that used to stock a superb range of component= s
that people wanted to buy, at good prices, and IN STOCK.

Someone has obviously lost the plot... and I hope it isnt me :-(

Me and Maplin are FINISHED !!!!!!!

Keith
