What I was really meaning was that a lot of the cost of a C-Bus installatio= n
is in the switches =96 at around =A350 each or nearer =A380 for the Neo=92s= it can
get quite expensive. Because of the electronics involved the 8 gang switche= s
are almost the same cost as a two gang.

Because of this I was implying that if the switch ON or switch OFF message<= BR> came from something else eg a timed event in a computer program or perhaps<= BR> in HomeVision and it could appear as a xAP message then this is picked up b= y
the xAP to C-Bus gateway and will switch the appropriate load on C-Bus On o= r
OFF =96 conversely all status change information on C-Bus is echoed back on= to
xAP as messages. Now how you handle say the HV to xAP gateway depends on th= e
availability of some xAP connectors for HV or the ability to say send a
serial message from HV that is re-interpreted as a xAP message by a small program. These bits have to be ironed out but including timed xAP events in=
a HV schedule will be kinda nice as will sending say xAP messages from
Homeseer.  You could very easily use X10 events to switch C-Bus loads = by
intercepting for example all the =93C=94 housecodes and mapping to C-Bus lo= ads
based on unit number 1 =96 16.

How does the C-Bus to xAP gateway fit into this picture?

Paul,
CAT5 is cheap, so put it in like you'll use C-bus, and even if you won't, you can use those cables for something else (xap, IR etc.)
In my opinion X10 is fine, until you start experiencing problems, and at that point you start thinking of C-bus.
Most of the people on C-bus, started with X-10.
For X10, you don't need any extra wiring, it uses your mains wires.
Cheers,
Nik

  Hello everyone!

I've just joined the group...quick intro and then a question or two.=

I'm making major alterations to a house I've bought - no plaster on = the
walls (apart from the
kitchen), wooden floors not down yet, not yet wired for elecitricity=
(apart from temporary stuff),
  that sort of thing.

There will never be a better time to install whatever wiring I want.= The
problem is, I've only just
"discovered" HA. So I'm learning and planning a lot in a s= hort amount of
time. At this stage, I
don't necessarily want to buy Comfort or HomeVision or whatever, I j= ust
want the wiring there for
  when I do.

I'd like to distribute audio, video, IR, LAN, control the lights, he= ating,
garden gate (when I get a
gate), garage door (when I've built the garage) and connect this up = to a
security system.

I'm planning on using CT100 coax, lots of Cat5e UTP, and maybe some = FTP.
But when it comes to
controlling lights etc, I'm trying to work out what system I might g= o with
so I can choose the
  cabling.

I can find very little reference to Hager's Tebis system -
http://www.hage= r.co.uk/product/tebis.htm - has anyone here any experience
of this?

  Clipsal's C-Bus looks more reliable than X10, but more expensive too= .

Any words of wisdom would be gratefully received!

  Thanks,
  Paul
