Peter,

I think that switches should be placed in the room the are to be used for,
and I personally don't like pull switches.  I've put light switches in
bathrooms in the past using momentary switches controlling 12V/240V latching
relays:-

Use a small DIN rail enclosure to house a 12V bell transformer and latching
relays in the loft.  Run 12V from the bell transformer to momentary
switches - and the otuput from the switches to latching relays.  The relays
then toggle switch the 240V supply to your lighting in the loft.  With each
press of the switch you'll get ON / OFF / ON etc...
You can then have the switches in the bathroom.
When doing this double insulate the 12V cables inside the enclosure by
adding some sleeving.
