Do not try the recovery with the orignal CD if you do not have a recovery
diskette (emergency repair disk).
You will loose all the installed software, including settings.
More, the system can become completely mess-up.

P.S. Just a small question: have you tried the Last Good Known
configuration, or the system crash even using this option?

Yes - I could do that although Windows says the Software registry
hive is corrupt. Isn't that important enough (with all the changes
from the original install) to warrant a re-install?
I'm not sure what I would gain :(
