Re: Lighting

One for Rob/Kevin/Frank/Stephen etc

Sorry if the post appears basic, but trying to fully understand C-BUS

Is this right?

1 Each light circuit goes back to consumer unit?
2 Cat5e goes from switch plate back to consumer unit?
3 System totally flexible such that one switch can control ALL light
circuits, or ALL switches can control 1 circuit, and all combinations in between?

Questions
1 Can you use CAT5 rather than CAT5e? (Cheaper and different colour) If so<= BR> any downsides?
2 Can you use those low wattage energy lamps? Are there any lamps you can't=
use?
3 Can you have 2 banks of consumer units in separate locations? eg If I
carry my first floor load upstairs into the loft, can I carry my ground
floor load to a different location?
4 In fact what type of consumer unit required?
5 Can I control table lamps with C-BUS? If so how?
6 The system is PC controlled, and if that is in node 0, how doees that
connect to the consumer unit?
7 Can the system integrate with other products eg alarms?
8 The literature I have read talks about controlling all electrical
appliances? If this relevant for the UK?
9 What future proofing would you recommend?
10 All the sparkys I have spoken to about X10 either think "LOADSAMONE= Y"
(got quoted =A3240 day rate yesterday!!!!!!!!!!) or won't touch it cos they=
dont understand. I am looking for sparky to do electrical wiring, and mysel= f
and any ukha volunteers :-) (come on Stuart you know you want to), to do th= e
cat5 stuff. Is that viable?
11 Could you use CBUS to electronically open doors?
12 Does anyone on the list make big use of PIRs ? If so any comments?

Sorry for the long list of questions, but I need to fully understand the system, before I can get a sparky to install it.

Thanks

Umar
