The track has now been replaced with a sturdy metal one. The fixings at
the
end and the housing of the motor seem rather poorly designed and not up
to
the quality standard I would expect from such an expensive item. From
what
you describe, the material band inside seems to be the same - I'll look
out
for wear. Apparently this track has a 3 year guarantee though.
Paul.

I have to original Swish versions rather than the new upgraded Silent
Gliss
versions. I bought them when they were runing down the last of the
stock at
B&Q, I did have to replace one of my rails that was broken like you
described.
My rail is made complely of plastic, with ends being blobs of plastic
which
are fixed by screws into the main rail. Inside, at either end is a
plastic
cog thing which interlocks with a material tape that is hole punged to
form
a chain like thing. The idea is that you could adjust the lengths on
them,
which I have done during a repair on one of my rails
The plastic bits that you descibe on mine are held in by plastic lugs
which
have been prone on one of my rails of poping out. One of my rails
over a
normal windows has not had any problems in two years. The other one
over
the patio door that has longer and thus heavier curtains did have
problems.
To stop the plastic things poping out I drilled a number of small holes
and
inserted nails.
About a year in on the big curtian, the rail had completly died. I
nearly
replaced the tape inside since the holes had gotten to large and worn,
also
one of the plastic cogs had worn right down. In the end I just
swapped the
driving cog with the one at the other end, and turned the tape round so
that
the other side could have some ware. A year on and its still ok, if I
get
more problems I won't hesitate to buy some new cogs and tape. I did
have a
contact number for these and found it to be quite expensive but a lot
newer
than a whole new silent gliss pack.
I was under the impression that Silent Gliss had upgraded the tracks
completly and made them metal with better chains inside. I wanted to
just
get new rails from silent gliss, but they will only sell them
altogether. I
already had the motors and controller so didn't want to replace the
whole
lot unless I had to.
Let us know how you get on. In general these rails have been very
reliable,
mine are configured to close at night and open in the morning. The
design
of the swish tracks was VERY cheap and nastey, I'd hoped silent gliss
had
sorted that part. For the cost of it there the rails should be built
as
well as the motor, and controller.
