Since when has giving every cable/plug etc in sight a good wiggle and a bash
been an unusal way of clearing any number of wacky errors. Or is it just me
that resorts to physically assaulting errant hardware as the first step of
the diagnostic process....

As those of you who frequent the UKHA IRC channel will be aware, I've
been having problems with my secondary access point.

This, a Linksys WAP11, is used in "remote bridge" mode, and is used
to connect a small LAN in the kitchen (where I couldn't run CAT5) to
the main house LAN. When I say "small", I mean "single box",
specifically a Rio Receiver.

For the last 10 days or so, the Rio just couldn't connect, despite
the fact that the bridge was flashing away its little "LAN" light.

Despite several attempts at re-configuring the bridge, it just
wouldn't play.

Finally, I decided to unplug it and move it to another room (in the
belief that, maybe, I'd done something to the aerials that meant it
wouldn't get a signal from the kitchen.)

As I was unplugging it, I noticed that the mains adaptor was slightly
pulled out of the mains socket (which is hidden behind the sideboard
in the kitchen.)

... It turned out that, as it was half-in, it was somehow getting
enough power to power up, and respond to reconfiguration requests
over the USB port, but NOT getting enough power to get a radio lock.

Mains pushed back in, everything sprung back into life.

A warning of a bizarre thing to check.

Regards,

Mark
